Such a role model! Iskra Lawrence took to social media to share one of her imperfections with fans and followers — and it turns out so many people also suffer from the same skin condition as the English babe.
“✨Keratosis pilaris✨,” the 28-year-old captioned a sexy photo of herself in a white dress with her arms on display, posted to her Instagram on May 15. “a.k.a. the reason I hated the skin on arms for basically my whole life.”
But the model explained that the condition is way more typical than one would think, especially someone suffering. “Little did I know that it’s VERY common with over 3 million cases per year in the US alone,” she explained. “But because skin is photoshopped and smoothed all over the media, magazines and now social media, it makes it seem like there’s something wrong if you don’t have crystal clear, smooth skin.”
“The FACT of the matter is — no skin is perfect and it’s not meant to be,” she concluded. “All my KP fam comment below and say something nice to yourself today ❤️.” Several fans commented in solidarity with the Aerie babe — talk about building a community.
This wouldn’t be the first time the model has spoken out about her flaws, and in turn, the pressures society puts on us to appear perfect. In fact, she spoke with Life & Style exclusively about staying away from photoshop in her Instagram posts and keeping things real.
“I feel like I needed it for myself in the sense that holding myself to a perfect ideal every single day on social media, it would be so draining and tiring and not good for my mental health as someone who has been through an eating disorder,” she explained while promoting her new TELETIES x Iskra Lawrence hair tie collaboration on April 16. “For me, to just be able to be real, it’s just a very healthier, balanced way to live.”
We’ve got your back, babe.
